People are on the streets and in the Capital 24/7.

Right now in Wisconsin, public workers from across the state; supported by private sector workers, students young and old, retirees, labor activists and anyone angered by the direction of state government, are holding unprecedented protests in Madison against utterly anti-worker legislation by Governor Scott Walker to gut their collective bargaining rights.

In January, Walker gave $140 million dollars to special interest groups that donated to his and Republican election campaigns, he is attempting to strip Wisconsin’s state workers of their hard-won right to collectively bargain over the conditions of their labor under the guise of filling a claimed $137 million budget shortfall.

Workers have held demonstrations throughout the week including a historic action of occupying the state capital.  A victory is essential, following Wisconsin, there are similar bills introduced in Ohio, and Iowa.  If that is not enough, in Missouri, Republican Sen. Jane Cunningham has introduced a bill to strip state law of all Child Labor protections.

I.W.W members from Madison Wisconsin, Milwaukee WI, Chicago Il, Champaign Urbana Il, Aurora Il, Minneapolis Twin Cities Minn, Omaha Nebraska, Milwaukee WI, and Lansing MI came out in full support having a creative and lively march.  I.W.W members also met with militant rank and file members of state unions to discuss widening the struggle, especially in the event that the bill is voted in favor.

If you are interested in attending, the Chicago I.W.W will have transportation throughout the week and can help with housing.  However, while we can assist with housing, you do have the opportunity to sleep inside the capital building.
